Holly -
(Ilex Aquifolia)
Plant Holly
12-18in. apart for an evergreen hedge with built
in prickles for security. Excellent for thickening or gapping a
native hedge as it keeps its leaves in winter. It is slower growing than leylandii
and laurel and therefore more suitable for a low
hedge although it can grow quite tall.

All our Leylandii
are all pot grown for a quicker start and greater
success. Plant them 2-3ft. apart for an evergreen
hedge. There is a choice of plants in Green, Gold, and Green with
White flecks. Leylandii hedges are excellent evergreen
screens, but they must be controlled as they can
grow up to 3 feet per year. Try to keep them
shorter and thinner than you want and they will
probably end up the right size. The gold
varieties brighten up any garden particularly
when viewed from the North.

Laurel - (Prunus)
Plant Laurel 18in.
apart for a glossy evergreen screen, the growth rate
is up to 2ft. per year. Laurel is a good alternative to
leylandii as it is much more controllable. Laurel is poisonous to
Horses & Cattle so should not be planted against a paddock.
It will recover if cut back hard into the old wood.

Western Red Cedar -

2ft apart. Western Red Cedar is an evergreen hedge often
mistaken for Leylandii, but it is much more controllable. The
foliage is bottle green and aromatic, which makes cutting it a
pleasure. It will recover if cut back hard into the old wood.

Yew -
(Taxus Baccata)
Plant Yew
12-18in apart. Yew is a stately evergreen hedge which can be
kept very neat. It can grow a foot per year belying its reputation
for being slow.
The leaves are poisonous to horses and cattle and
the berries are poisonous if eaten.

the plants over winter giving an evergreen effect. It is usually planted
bare root from November to March, although potted Beech can be planted
at any time. Beech works well between a garden and paddock as it is more
ornamental than a native hedge in the garden, whilst still looking right
from the field too.

dead leaves stay on the plants over winter giving
an evergreen effect in a similar way to beech. It is usually planted bare
root from November to March. The advantage of Hornbeam is that
it will tolerate wetter conditions than Beech. |

is planted from November to March. It is usually planted 9in

As the plants are dug up out of the ground they
should be replanted as soon as possible. They are available
